聖經啟示，建造召會的事奉乃是身體的事奉。（弗四15～16，西二19。）召會是基督這神人調和之二性品的擴大，也是基督的豐滿長成的身體。因此，召會中所有的事奉，都該讓基督的成分在人裏面加多，使人在一切事上長到元首基督裏面。

今天，我們要有分於建造召會的事奉，就必須在身體裏，順服元首的權柄，摸神的心而彼此相愛，照著聖靈的運行，顯出功用，並接受破碎，與眾聖徒聯絡結合，不單獨，不分裂。這樣本於祂，全身就以神的增長而長大，在愛裏把自己建造起來，召會也就得著真實的建造。

本書係李常受弟兄關於召會事奉的八篇信息集成，講時講地不詳，據其中第三篇中段所題的時間推斷，可能講於一九五四年左右。各篇原刊於一九五九年的『話語職事』，今略加潤飾，彙集為單行本。
