基督徒的生活有生命和事奉這二面。生命的事總是在先；有生命裏真實的長大，纔能有事奉。就如嬰孩必須長大，纔能成人，並作許多事。這是論到事奉該有的基本認識。

本書是要我們看見，正確的基督徒事奉有三個基本啟示及原則：第一，我們必須在基督的身體裏事奉。一個肢體無法離開身體而盡功用，照樣，我們也絕不能單獨，必須與其他肢體配搭來事奉。第二，必須在我們的靈裏事奉。屬靈事奉的目的乃是供應生命給人，因此我們在身體裏事奉時，必須運用我們的靈，以得著那靈屬天的能力和權柄，而將生命供應給人。第三，必須藉著禱告來事奉。在主的恢復裏，事奉不是靠組織和安排，而是絕對倚靠禱告。我們若為著在身體事奉裏所要作的每一件事禱告，並照著那靈引導，在靈裏有真實的事奉，就能達到基督身體的建造。

本書係李常受弟兄於主後一九六三和一九六九年，在美國加州洛杉磯所釋放的信息。
