使徒保羅在羅馬書第七章說到一個發現，就是他願意為善的時候，便有惡與他同在－犯罪不只是一種行為，乃是一個律。人憑自己的意志和努力，絕無法勝過罪。然而，保羅在八章說，『現今那些在基督耶穌裏的，就沒有定罪了。因為生命之靈的律，在基督耶穌裏已經釋放了我，使我脫離了罪與死的律。』

這是一個更大的發現：神所賜的生命也是一個律，這律是最強大的，能勝過罪與死的律。基督徒得拯救的路在於，當我們看見罪乃是一個律時，我們對自己不存盼望，承認自己無能為力，只信靠在我們裏面的生命之律，隨從它，與它合作，自然的就勝過了罪的律，結果乃是生命和平安。這該是我們每日正常的經歷。以生命的律來對付罪的律，是不花力氣的！
